WindBlue’s New Look Wednesday, February 24, 2010

Have you noticed WindBlue Power’s revamped Website?  We are excited about the new look and features.

In addition to the improved home page we have several new or expanded links:

  • We now have a blog! ( This being the first) Look here for ideas, comments, and news from the rest of the residential alternative energy world.
  • Sign up for the newsletters.  Keep informed about upcoming promotions, sales and new products.
  • Have a question about wind power?  Check out the Learning Center.  If you can’t find what you’re looking for there or in the FAQ’s click on the ‘Contact Us’ button, ask your question, and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Please help me make this blog fun and interesting.  Send in your ideas, comments, pictures of your WindBlue projects, and yes, even constructive criticisms.  Of course, foul language, libelous statements, and trash talk will be edited out.

Hi WindBlue, nice update on your web page.
Thought I might try out your blog.
Sent you email while back with info and pictures of our four wind mills made from your generators we bought from you, they are making power. Did you get the email?
    Keep up the good work!

Hi, I have a couple of 540’s operating in Queensland, Australia. they are up 30 ft off the ground and are doing a good job. Before raising them into position, I cut a section of 4inch PVC pipe, cut it along the length and heated it with a blow torch. Once it was soft, I opened the section and placed it over the alternator. This forms a damn good protective measure over the top of the alternator, keeping most of the rain and other stuff out of the works. It has proved to be a very cheap and effective protection medium.
Prior to raising the suckers into position, which I am reluctant to lower, I also sprayed the complete units, including the windings with lanolin. This should offer corrosive protection for many years.
My twin 540’s operate in conjunction with 800 watts of solar panels. If you happen to be in the same generating situation, make sure that you install a special 400 volt blocking diode between your wind generators and the solar panels as the alternators could blow the crap out of all your solar panels. I didn’t realise this and I am an electrician.
I made my own mounting brackets and teflon bearings for the 540’s and along with the welding flex conductors, they are a great contribution.
I used the 25 amp wind/hydro regulator that comes with the 540, and once again, I am very happy. I dump the excess load into a set of head lamps that can absorb more energy than what the 540’s can deliver.

Gervais, Doug was waiting to make sure we did not get a bad batch of vanes. Apparently we did not and the only thing we can determine is that the aluminum was defective and not detectable to the eye. How are the new ones we sent holding up?
